Cognitive Interpretation of Everyday Activities - Toward Perceptual Narrative Based Visuo-Spatial Scene Interpretation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We position a narrative-centred computational model for high-level knowledge representation and reasoning in the context of a range of assistive technologies concerned with visuo-spatial perception and cognition tasks. Our proposed narrative model encompasses aspects such as space, events, actions, change, and interaction from the viewpoint of commonsense reasoning and learning in large-scale cognitive systems. The broad focus of this paper is on the domain of human-activity interpretation in smart environments, ambient intelligence etc. In the backdrop of a smart meeting cinematography domain, we position the proposed narrative model, preliminary work on perceptual narrativisation, and the immediate outlook on constructing general-purpose open-source tools for perceptual narrativisation. 1998 ACM Subject Classification I.2.0 Artificial Intelligence: General – Cognitive Simulation, I.2.4 Knowledge Representation Formalisms and Methods, I.2.10 Vision and Scene Understanding: Architecture and control structures, Motion, Perceptual reasoning, Shape, Video analysis

متن کاملPerceptual Narratives of Space and Motion for Activity Interpretation
We propose a commonsense theory of space and motion for the high-level semantic interpretation of dynamic scenes. The theory provides primitives for commonsense representation and reasoning with qualitative spatial relations, depth profiles, and spatio-temporal change; these may be combined with a learning method (e.g., using hidden markov models) for modelling and hypothesising event and objec...
متن کاملIii. Object Explorationstudies: Infants’ Discriminationof Typical Andscrambleddolls
A number of recent authors have questioned the wisdom of inferring underlying cognitive representations and processes from infants’ performance in visual paradigms alone (Bremner, 2000; Haith, 1998; Langer, Gillette, & Arriaga, 2003; Simon, 1997). One concern is that visual discrimination studies do not engage infants’ representational knowledge, but require only low-level, on-line perceptual a...
متن کاملDeeply Semantic Inductive Spatio-Temporal Learning
We present an inductive spatio-temporal learning framework rooted in inductive logic programming. With an emphasis on visuo-spatial language, logic, and cognition, the framework supports learning with relational spatio-temporal features identifiable in a range of domains involving the processing and interpretation of dynamic visuo-spatial imagery. We present a prototypical system, and an exampl...
متن کاملAn Approach for Scene Interpretation Using Qualitative Descriptors, Semantics, and Domain Knowledge
An approach for cognitive scene interpretation is proposed based on qualitative descriptors, domain knowledge and spatial logics. Qualitative descriptors of shape, colour, topology and location are used for describing any object in the scene. Two kinds of domain knowledge are provided: (i) categorizations of objects according to their qualitative descriptors, and (ii) information about target o...
